Thousands Hit London

Its is upon us once again the London Marathon

Thousands of runners including charities and celebrities are turning out for the largest single fundraising event in the world.

About 35,000 runners are expected to turn up for the race, the race which is 26.2 miles began this morning with bright conditions.

Runners taking part include celebrities Katie Price and Peter Andre who have been training hard for the race. Reports claim that Katie has taken this very seriously and has enforced a sex ban, as she does not want to jeopardise her performance in the race.

Other celebrities include Chef Gordon Ramsay, who is running his tenth marathon.
Chef Ramsay said: "It's time for a celebration. We're fighting a global credit crunch, and in terms of coming out and having fun, it costs nothing to come and watch".

Major Phil Packer, a paraplegic who was crippled in a rocket attack in the Iraqi last year hopes to complete the race in 13 days and raise £1m for the charity Help The Heroes.

Maj Packer will run the walk on crutches and aims to complete two miles per day; this will be a great achievement for Maj. Packer who was told he might not walk ever again after the accident.

For the elite athletes taking part the favourite is reigning champion Irina Mikitenko of Germany. British favourite Paula Radcliffe will not be taken part due to a broken toe, our hopes now faded.

Male favourite is Kenyan runner Sammy Wanjiru to take the title after defending champion Martin Lel had to withdraw on Saturday after suffering a hip injury.

Let’s hope the day is a success and raises money and awareness for all charities involved!

Much love

P.s All the best to the brave competitors!
